Derrin Hansen, UNO men's basketball turn down CBI bid, thank 'growing fanbase' for support

The second-seeded Mavericks lost 73-63 to North Dakota State in conference final, which dropped to them to 21-11 on the season.

After falling in Tuesday’s Summit League championship game in which UNO coach have secured its first NCAA Division-I tournament berth, coach Derrin Hansen said his team won’t accept a bid to the CBI.

"After speaking with our team and administration, we have agreed that our 2018-19 season should end with the incredible run we had at the Summit League championship in Sioux Falls,” Hansen said in a press release Thursday. “We are appreciative of the interest shown in our program and the possibility of postseason play, but we have elected not to participate in tournament opportunities that offer no guarantee of matchups and require a significant financial investment to play.

"Entering this year, I could see what this team was capable of, and our student-athletes delivered. They were invested and played at a championship level to make it one to remember. We thank our growing fanbase for its support this season and look forward to 2019-20."
