FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Max Landis scored 20 points and had seven assists to lead IPFW to a 94-90 win over UNO on Saturday.
The win kept the Mastodons (22-7, 11-3) atop the Summit League standings with two games left, while the Mavericks (17-12, 9-6) remained in third place, half a game ahead of Oral Roberts.
The Mastodons never trailed and led by as many as 14 points, but the Mavs made a late charge in the final eight minutes before coming up short.
Trailing 77-67, UNO scored 21 points in a 6½-minute span, pulling even at 88-88 on a three-point play by Tra-Deon Hollins with 1:32 left.
But 25 seconds later, the Mastodons answered when Michael Calder scored a three-point play of his own.
Following a layup by Hollins, the Mastodons made 3 of 4 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Hollins scored 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting and dished out seven assists. Randy Reed added 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
The Mavs hit 10 of their 25 3-point attempts and shot 49.3 percent from the floor. But the Mastodons attempted 26 free throws, making 24.
IPFW’s DeAngelo Stewart scored 23 points off the bench, hitting five 3-pointers. John Konchar added 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Mavericks will finish their regular-season schedule when they host Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Thursday at Baxter Arena.
