MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A six-run fourth inning propelled Gardner-Webb to a 12-6 victory over UNO on Sunday at the Alabama State Hornet Tournament.

Gardner-Webb (9-6) led 2-1 through three before scoring six run on five hits in the fourth. The first five Gardner-Webb batters reached base as it knocked Maverick starter Laura Roecker out of the game.

UNO (6-9) cut its deficit to 8-4 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth — Lia Mancuso had a two-run double and Nicole Warren an RBI single — but Gardner-Webb responded with three more runs in the fifth to put the game away.

Kelly Pattison and Bailey Schulenberg led UNO with two hits apiece. Lizzie Noble scored twice.

Roecker (3-4) was tagged with the loss. She allowed six earned runs and six hits in three-plus innings.

UNO, which went 2-3 over the weekend, heads to the Colorado State Classic next weekend. The Mavs open that tournament against Idaho State at 11 a.m. Saturday.
