EMERSON, Ga. — The UNO baseball allowed 16 unanswered runs Friday in dropping its season opener to Eastern Michigan 16-3 at the Perfect Game Spring Swing.

The Mavs (0-1) used a two-run homer from Clayton Taylor in the first inning and a solo shot by Ryan Cate in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. But Eastern Michigan exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth as UNO committed five errors in the inning.

Eagles starter Sam Delaplane and two relievers took over from there, allowing just one UNO runner to advance past second base the rest of the way.

Mavs starter Tyler Fox (0-1) was charged with 10 runs on 10 hits, though only one run was earned. He struck out three and walked one. Riley Herold was the only UNO player to finish with multiple hits, going 2 for 3.

The Mavs continue play at the Spring Swing on Saturday, playing Eastern Michigan again at 11 a.m. before facing NJIT at 6 p.m.
