UNO coach Bob Herold wasn’t surprised to see Tyler Fox named the Summit League co-pitcher of the week on Monday.

The senior right-hander surrendered three hits in seven shutout innings in Friday’s 16-2 win over Saint Louis at the Perfect Game Spring Swing in Emerson, Georgia. Fox (1-1) collected seven strikeouts to earn his first win.

“He’s our best pitcher,’’ Herold said. “In the top two or three we’ve had here.’’

Oral Roberts reliever Brady Womacks shared the award with Fox. Oral Roberts infielder Nick Roark was named Summit League player of the week.

Fox was the Summit League pitcher of the year in 2014, when he went 9-1. Last year, he slipped to 5-4 but still had the second-best ERA in the conference at 2.88. Opponents had a .243 batting average and recorded a team-high 72 strikeouts.

“He has command of all his pitches and he doesn’t get rattled,’’ Herold said.

Fox won’t see action in Tuesday’s 3 p.m. game at Wichita State. Grant Suponchick, a freshman from Papillion-La Vista South, will start and several other UNO pitchers will see work.

Wichita State has lost five straight after opening with two wins. The Mavs hope to pounce on the Shockers, just like last year when they won 6-4.

“Everybody is trying to catch everybody when they are not playing well,’’ Herold said. “We got them last year. Everybody is hard to beat at home.’’
