Evan Weninger

UNO freshman goalie Evan Weninger, No. 35, posted two victories against Western Michigan over the weekend. He ranks second in the NCHC with a .936 save percentage and fourth with a 2.06 goals-against average.

UNO freshman Evan Weninger was named the NCHC goaltender of the week following a sweep of Western Michigan last weekend.

Weninger was in goal for both wins over the Broncos, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. On Friday, he stopped 28 of 29 shots and helped the Mavericks kill all four WMU power plays in a 2-1 win. The following night, he had 31 saves in a 6-3 victory.

The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, ranks second in the NCHC with a .936 save percentage and fourth with a 2.06 GAA. It’s the first goaltender of the week award for Weninger, who was named the NCHC’s rookie of the month for November.

Meanwhile, UNO moved up one spot in one of the weekly polls while maintaining its spot in the other.

The Mavericks are 11th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, up one spot from last week. They are still 12th in the USCHO.com poll.

UNO’s opponent this weekend, St. Cloud State, is the highest-ranked NCHC team, coming in third in both polls, just ahead of North Dakota. Denver, which swept UND last weekend, moved up to 10th in both polls.
