When: 6 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Minneapolis

UNO RH Jackson Gordon (0-1, 5.79) vs. UM TBD

Scouting UNO: The Mavericks (26-16-1) went straight from their weekend series at North Dakota State to Minneapolis for a midweek game with the Gophers. UNO is trying to get back on track in the final two weeks of the regular season after dropping five of its past six games. The Mavs have seen their lead in the Summit League shrink to two games entering a big weekend series at Western Illinois. UNO will go straight to Macomb, Illinois, after Wednesday’s game. The Mavs are still seeking their first midweek victory, which seems crazy for a 26-win team. Freshman Jackson Gordon from Omaha Skutt will make his third start of the year. All of them have come in midweek games. He’s also faced Kansas State and Nebraska.

Scouting Minnesota: The Gophers (22-23), locked in a fourth-place tie with Iowa, are still in the hunt for a Big Ten regular-season title with two winnable series remaining on their schedule. Their midweek games with South Dakota State and UNO this week are their final ones of the season. Minnesota, the preseason league favorite, had dropped four straight series before sweeping Ohio State at home last weekend and is looking to build momentum before coming to Omaha for the conference tournament. The Gophers will need to win it to advance to the NCAA field of 64 because of their low RPI. The Gopher bullpen threw 18 shutout innings against the Buckeyes last weekend, and one their relievers may get the start on Wednesday.
