LINCOLN — Thirty-five people have thrown their names in to replace State Sen. Bill Kintner of Papillion in the Nebraska Legislature.

Kintner resigned last week following controversies involving his using a state laptop to engage in cybersex with a woman he met online and retweeting a Twitter post that appeared to make light of sexual assault.

His resignation was effective Monday.

Gov. Pete Ricketts now has the task of selecting Kintner’s successor.

The appointee will finish out Kintner’s term, serving until January 2019. The person would be eligible to run for another four-year term after that.
