NCAA volleyball: Showing killer instinct

Nebraska had too much Lauren Stivrins (pictured) for Ball State on Friday night. And too much Madi Kubik. Stivrins, an All-Big Ten middle blocker, and Kubik, the league’s freshman of the year, pounded 11 kills apiece as the Huskers overpowered Ball State 25-13, 25-18, 25-10 to open NCAA tournament play at the Devaney Center. Nebraska hit .425 overall with eight hitting errors while limiting Ball State to .010. Next up, the Huskers face

Missouri at 7 p.m. Saturday with a berth in the Sweet 16 on the line.
