Not that top-ranked Nebraska playing any match wouldn’t have packed the Devaney Center, but Wednesday night wasn’t just any match. It was No. 1 Nebraska vs. No. 2 Stanford. And it was a rematch of last year’s national championship, won by the Cardinal in five sets. A Devaney-record 8,632 showed up for Round 2, but the Huskers wouldn’t get their revenge this time. Stanford got off to a fast start en route to a 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 win, handing NU its first loss of the season. The Stanford defense was particularly impressive. The Cardinal held the Huskers to a .150 hitting clip — while they finished at .294 — to win their third straight match between the teams.
