Husker football: Very few holes in Gophers

JD Spielman found some space in the first half against the Gophers. The Minnesotan caught three passes — including a 51-yarder — to push his career receptions total to 145. That moved him past Johnny Rodgers into fifth on the school’s all-time list. But that was one of the few openings or bright spots Saturday night for the Huskers. They were already nursing injuries at the skill positions — then endured more. They also endured a Gopher ground game that racked up 322 yards and often bowled over Husker defenders in a 34-7 win that moved Minnesota to 6-0 and dropped the Huskers to 4-3 entering a bye week.
