The last time Michigan and Vanderbilt played was the 2007 Nashville Regional championship. Alan Oaks hit a pinch-hit home run off David Price, who had come on in relief, in a 4-3 Wolverine win. Michigan's starting pitcher that night was Chris Fetter, UM's current pitching coach, and UM coach Erik Bakich was an assistant for Vanderbilt. Michigan’s Tommy Henry, above, delivered a complete game with 10 strikeouts in the Wolverines’ second victory of the College World Series, 2-0 over Florida State. In its first game, a 5-3 win over Texas Tech, Michigan took control with a three-run third inning in which Blake Nelson, top at left, gestured that he was safe on a play at third base. A replay proved him right. Michigan and Texas Tech met again Friday, with Jesse Franklin, left, and the Wolverines running circles around the Red Raiders in a 15-3 blowout that sent the Big Ten school to the final. Michigan is seeking its first national championship since 1962.
