Midland University vs. Mayville State

When, where: Noon, Memorial Stadium, Fremont, Neb.

Player to watch: Midland returns QB Mike Karls, last season's leading passer and rusher. A double-threat, he passed for 932 yards and five touchdowns last year while running for five touchdowns and 313 yards.

Outlook: With a strong crop of young talent and a solid core of returners, the Warriors look to be strong GPAC contenders.

Briar Cliff vs. Benedictine

When, where: 1 p.m., Atchison, Kan.

Players to watch: QB Kevin Van Egdom returns to lead Briar Cliff's offense after seeing action in only two games last season due to injury. The Ravens return running back Cameron Fore, who rushed for 1,029 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.

Outlook: Benedictine is coming off a 7-4 (5-4) campaign. The Ravens were picked fifth in the HAAC preseason coaches poll and are ranked No. 24 in the nation. The Chargers were tied for ninth in the GPAC preseason coaches poll after going 1-10 last year.

Dakota State at Peru State

When, where: 7 p.m., Bulldog Stadium, Auburn, Neb.

Player to watch: DL Zach Lempka will lead a Peru State defense that looks to improve upon its performance from last year. The senior from Sterling, Neb., is a two-time Heart of America Athletic Conference honoree.

Outlook: This is the first of Peru State's four “home” games away from home. Last season, the Bobcats edged Dakota State 35-27 and will look to repeat that performance. Quarterback Tyler Audsley steps in due to the season-ending injury of last year's starter, Bo Shepard.
