ROUND ROCK, Texas — Bubba Starling hit a three-run double in the first inning to lead Omaha to a 3-2 win over Round Rock on Saturday.
Entering the game mired in a 3-for-36 slump, Starling came up with the bases loaded and two outs. He drove Ryan Hartman’s 0-2 pitch to left field to clear the bases for a 3-0 lead.
It would be all the offense the Storm Chasers (38-44) would need. Opener Josh Staumont pitched two scoreless innings, and Jake Kalish followed with six strong innings to earn the win.
Kalish scattered four hits and two runs — one earned — while striking out three. After giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings at Fresno on June 17, Kalish has allowed only four runs in 12 2/3 innings in his last two outings.
Richard Lovelady pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
Starling, Chase d’Arnaud and Brett Phillips all had two hits for Omaha.
The five-game series with the Express (47-34) continues Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
