For the second time in 10 days, Wayne State’s athletic department has added a women’s varsity sport.

Wayne State A.D. Mike Powicki announced Friday that the Wildcats will compete in the NCAA’s National Collegiate Division for beach volleyball.

Wayne State joins the University of Nebraska as the only schools in the state to have a beach volleyball program.

Scott Kneifl, Wayne head volleyball coach, and assistant Kim DePew will serve as coaches for the new program.

Wayne State announced on June 19 that it was bringing back its women’s golf program. Wayne State now has 15 sports, including nine for women.
