Two Wayne State throwers earn All-America honors

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Wayne State discus throwers Michaela Dendinger and Sara Wells earned All-America honors Friday at the NCAA Division II national championships.

Dendinger finished second in the event with a throw of 178 feet, 3 inches, while Wells was third at 175-6. Chadron State’s Mel Herl placed fourth with a throw of 170-0.

In other news:

» At Gulf Shores, Alabama, Northwestern College’s Karen Ettleman won the heptathlon at the NAIA national championships.

Ettleman totaled 5,478 points, finishing 277 points ahead of the runner-up.
