AXTELL, Neb. — Josh Bartels of Lincoln and Luke Gutschewski of Elkhorn will meet Thursday for the Nebraska boys match play golf championship at Awarii Dunes.

Bartels beat Norfolk’s Isaac Heimes 5 and 4 and Gutschewski outlasted Seward’s Tyler Welch 1-up in their semifinals.

In quarterfinals, Bartels beat Juniata’s Nolan Sughroue 3 and 2, Heimes topped No. 1 seed Reed Malleck of York 1-up, Gutschewski beat Omaha’s Josh Peters 5 and 3 and Welch beat Ian Lundquist of Oakland 3 and 2.

Thiele wins girls title

Lauren Thiele of Wahoo joined two of her sisters Wednesday as a champion of the Nebraska girls match play golf championship.

Thiele defeated Jalea Culliver of Omaha 3 and 2 in the final at Awarii Dunes. Older sisters Haley (2013, 2014) and Hannah (2015) also won the tournament.

Thiele, who beat No, 1 seed Danica Badura of Aurora 1 up in the semifinals, was 5 up after nine holes against Culliver, who reached the final with a 3-and-2 win over North Platte’s Baylee Steele.
