Lincoln High's Nyayongah Gony, a top-100 girls basketball recruit, commits to Miami

Listed at 6-foot-3, Nyayongah Gony is a four-star recruit and the No. 78 prospect in the 2020 class, according to ESPNW.

Nebraska's highest rated girls basketball recruit is heading south to play college basketball. Lincoln High senior Nyayongah Gony announced her commitment to Miami on Wednesday afternoon.

"I chose Miami because my style of play could impact an already great program," Gony said. "I have a great relationship with everyone I met and it's a great university."

Listed at 6-foot-3, Gony is a four-star recruit and the No. 78 prospect in the 2020 class, according to ESPNW.

ESPNW evaluators describe Gony as an "athletic stretch-4 performer with off-the-charts potential, superior length and a wingspan that provides a defensive presence in the paint, a mismatch producer with offensive firepower to the arc that attacks the basket off the dribble and continues to evolve as a Power Five prospect."

Gony chose Miami over scholarship offers from Nebraska, Louisville, Purdue and a handful of other power conference schools.

"My decision was ultimately between Miami, Purdue and Louisville," she said. "I had great relationships with the coaches at all three schools and all had amazing programs. The tough part was having amazing choices that all offered something different."

Miami has seen success under coach Katie Meier, who has led the Hurricanes to eight NCAA tournament appearances and nine 20-plus win seasons in 15 seasons.

"I called in the middle of practice and coach Meier immediately screamed with joy which I think was the best and most reassuring reaction."
