Elliott Brown

Elliott Brown accounted for 1,904 yards of total offense during his senior season at Elkhorn South.

Elkhorn South’s Elliott Brown will join the Huskers as a preferred walk-on, the senior announced Friday. The Storm quarterback will begin his NU career at wide receiver. On Twitter, he said he was “born for this.”

"It's a tradition that you can't pass up, especially when being from here and seeing the influence the program has on people," Brown told The World-Herald's Mike Sautter. "Also the influence that I can have on people in my community that goes way beyond football."

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Brown chose to walk on over Division II scholarship offers from Northwest Missouri State, Augustana and UNK.

"I realized this is where I want to be and I want this to be my home for the next chapter in my life," Brown said. "Plus I couldn't find a better group of coaches to push me and challenge me to become a better person on and off the field."

Brown, whose father Lance was a wing back on the national championship Husker teams in 1995 and 1997, threw for 1,322 yards and 13 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He also ran for 582 yards and five more scores in helping Elkhorn South reach the Class A quarterfinal.

"It's a huge honor for me to be able to follow where he went and to play at Nebraska," Brown said. "My dad was a great player, but I hope to be better."

And one of his teammates is also a future Husker. Offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka is a scholarship commit in the 2021 class.

Brown becomes the 13th member of the Huskers' 2020 walk-on class and the 11th from Nebraska. He joins other in-state walk-ons: Nate Boerkircher (Aurora), Baylor Brannen (Millard West), Ashton Hausmann (Norris), Braden Klover (Southern), Trevin Luben (Wahoo), Keegan Menning (Fremont), Mason Nieman (Waverly), Eli Simonson (Fremont Bergan), Grant Tagge (Omaha Westside) and Xavier Trevino (Lincoln Southeast). The out-of-state walk-on commits are Matthias Algarin (Pierz, Minnesota) and Camden Witucki (Grand Blanc, Michgan).
