When the Nebraska high school football season opens this week, 47 teams will have new coaches.
Only three Class A schools are on the list: Lincoln Northeast, Omaha Bryan and Papillion-La Vista.
Class A: Lincoln Northeast, Dan Martin; Omaha Bryan, Ryan Hanson; Papillion-La Vista, Tim Williams (from Waverly).
Class B: Crete, Mark Newmeyer; Norris, Ty Twarling (from Cross County); Schuyler, Jason Ankrah; Scottsbluff, Jud Hall; South Sioux City, Chris Stein; Waverly, Reed Manstedt (from Crete).
Class C-1: Douglas County West, Michael Troy; Fairbury, Matt Edson; Mitchell, Nick Kuxhausen; Omaha Concordia, Matt Marty; Platteview, Mark McLaughlin; Wahoo Neumann, Doug Lanik.
Class C-2: Bridgeport, Jeremy Reimers; Centura, Cory Bohling; David City, Robert Evans; Gibbon, Jeff Montgomery (former Gibbon coach) and Steve Yockey; Hastings St. Cecilia, Cody Jackson; Hershey, Greg Welch (from Garnett, Kansas); Superior, Chuck Syverson (from Thermopolis, Wyoming).

Mark Macke of Lincoln High and Ryan Thompson of Ashland-Greenwood will be the head coaches for next year’s Nebraska Shrine Bowl. The 62nd annual game will be June 6 in Kearney.
On Macke’s North staff will be Rusty Fuller of St. Paul, Josh Deines of Sandhills/Thedford, Bryan Soukup of Blair, Lincoln High assistant AJ Santos and Grand Island assistant Paul Cloutier.
With Thompson on the South staff will be Evan Klanecky of Centennial, Jay Landstrom of Omaha Central, Troy Huebert of Central City, Ashland assistant Nate Tonjes and Omaha Skutt assistant Brant Loewe.
Macke was a Shrine assistant in 2011.

Eight-man schedules forfeited
Franklin and Wallace have forfeited their eight-man schedules this season and are playing six-man junior varsity schedules.
The NSAA was able to get replacement games for all of the opponents for the two teams except Kenesaw and Lawrence-Nelson, schools already playing each other.

Fifth decade for Hingst
Marty Hingst is beginning his 41st season as Milford coach, the longest active tenure at one school. Bill Mimick at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is starting his 44th season as a head coach.
In Class A, Mark Wortman is entering his 40th year at Elkhorn, the only place he has been a head coach, and Fred Petito his 37th at Millard North and 39th overall.
