High school notes: Both Cox, KXVO will show live football games; Bellevue East coach Anthony Dunn leaves for Doane and more

High school football around Omaha will be getting double TV coverage this fall.

KXVO’s nine-game Thursday Night Showdown package is returning for its seventh season. Joining it will be the first year of live telecasts by Cox Communications, which has aired games on tape delay since 1990.

Cox has eight Friday games and two Thursday, including the week when Nebraska plays Illinois on a Friday night.

Defending Class A champion Bellevue West will be on KXVO twice and Cox once. Omaha Westside will be on the most with one game on KXVO and three on Cox. Omaha Creighton Prep, Millard North and Millard West will each be on TV three times and two-time defending Class B champion Elkhorn South will be televised twice.

Dunn leaves for Doane

After two seasons as Bellevue East football coach, Anthony Dunn is returning to his college alma mater as offensive coordinator at Doane.

Dunn, a two-sport standout who was a quarterback and catcher, was The World-Herald’s male Midlands College male athlete of the year in 2012.
