Humphrey St. Francis-Riverside

The Pinnacle Bank Game of the Week featured Class D-2 No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis (2-0) hosting Class D-1 No. 8 Riverside (3-0).

The Flyers controlled the game en route to a 86-33 victory.

Here are World-Herald prep recruiting specialist Mike Sautter's three takes from the game:

1. The Flyers' defense was suffocating Thursday night. The 1-3-1 press created 20 steals for St. Francis and most of those resulted in run outs.

2. Coming off of a state championship in football, there was no rust for the Flyers on the basketball court. Sophomore Tanner Pfeifer led all scorers with 26 points, with 20 coming in the second half. Pfeifer has a high motor and good length. If he chooses he could play college basketball at the next level. Senior Trevor Pfeifer is one of the better athletes not just in Northeast Nebraska, but in all of the smaller classes in the state.

3. Humphrey St. Francis girls finished runner-up a season ago. Junior Allison Weidner committed to Nebraska earlier this fall, and she looked every bit the part of a high level Division I basketball player in limited minutes on Thursday night. The court vision, defensive instincts and speed are her best characteristics.
