AMARILLO, Texas — The Omaha Beef suffered their second straight loss as the Amarillo Venom held on for a 45-42 win Monday night.

The teams traded the lead four times in the first nine minutes of the second half before Amarillo scored a touchdown with 8:20 left to build a 45-35 advantage.

Omaha answered with 4:44 left as Derrick Bernard hit Donovan Rasberry on a 4-yard TD pass. The Beef then attempted a field goal in the final seconds, but it was blocked.

Bernard led the Beef with four rushing touchdowns and threw for 112 yards and another score. Amarillo outgained the Beef 288-197.

It was the first time this season that Amarillo (6-4) held an opponent to fewer than 57 points.

Omaha (7-3) returns to action Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at home against Salina. Salina defeated the Beef 54-34 on June 1.
