UNO’s Austin Ortega, Luc Snuggerud net All-NCHC honors

UNO senior forward Austin Ortega was named to the NCHC’s first team.

COLORADO SPRINGS — UNO senior forward Austin Ortega was named to the NCHC’s first team while junior defenseman Luc Snuggerud earned second-team honors, the league announced Wednesday.

Ortega, who was second-team all conference his sophomore season, leads the NCHC in scoring with 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists). He earned the league’s offensive player of the week honor three times in addition to being player of the month in December, when he had five goals and five assists in six games.

Earlier this season, the native of Escondido, California, tied the NCAA record with his 23rd career game-winning goal.

Snuggerud is second among NCHC defensemen in scoring with 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points — all career highs. A fifth-round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2014, he is tied for second among all NCHC players with 18 power-play points.

Snuggerud made the NCHC’s all-rookie team last year.
