Recruiting: Nebraska sets dates for Friday Night Lights recruiting camps

Nebraska will hold two Friday Night Lights camps in Memorial Stadium this summer. The events last year attracted several members of NU's 2017 signing class.

Nebraska will host two Friday Night Lights recruiting/development camps this summer on June 16 and June 23, according to Nebraska’s Big Red Football Camps website.

The Friday Night Lights events drew top national prospects — and were open to the public — last summer, becoming a hit with recruits and Husker fans alike.

NU will also hold a “Big Man” and “Skill Position” camp on June 13, and two youth camps — both of which last two days — on June 14-15 and June 21-22.

NU coach Mike Riley hinted at his signing day press conference that Husker assistants might work satellite camps at other sites, as well. Pending passage of NCAA legislation, satellite camps are likely to be limited to being hosted by NCAA member schools — and not by high schools or unaffiliated third parties — starting this year. The rule would allow other schools to work NU’s camps if the Huskers so wished; last year, a coach from South Dakota State worked one of Nebraska’s Friday Night Lights events, for example.

Additional pending NCAA legislation would require schools to choose not more than 10 non-consecutive days for conducting or participating in football camps. That’s different than the previous regulation, which allowed coaches to participate in camps during two periods of 15 consecutive days.
