Northwest's Whitney Brown averaged 16.9 points to help lead her team to the Class B state title last March.

Nebraska women’s basketball coach Amy Williams announced the addition of three players Wednesday: Ruby Porter, Annika Stewart and Whitney Brown.

“It’s a very exciting day for our program, as we add a recruiting class that fits our needs on the court and our Husker family as a whole,” Williams said. “We are excited about the potential this group brings, and we are looking forward to helping them build a great list of accomplishments in the future here at Nebraska.”

Brown, from Grand Island Northwest, is a preferred walk-on. She averaged 16.9 points to help lead her team to the Class B state title last March. Fellow guard Porter is from Australia.

Stewart, a forward from Minneapolis, averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds as a junior.

Softball: Nebraska added eight players Wednesday, coach Rhonda Revelle announced. The class includes Gretna’s Billie Andrews and Lincoln Southwest’s Abbie Squier.

Gretna's Billie Andrews played 116 games and finished her career with a .434 batting average, a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. She is also the school’s record holder for career home runs (57) and a four-time All-Nebraska pick.

“This is an athletic, competitive, high-performing and high-character class,” Revelle said. “This is a group that has worked to get to know each other well, even though they come from five different states. They aspire to hit the ground running.”

Gretna’s Andrews played 116 games and finished her career with a .434 batting average, a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. She is also the school’s record holder for career home runs (57) and a four-time All-Nebraska pick.

Squier was ranked No. 95 overall in the class by Extra Inning Softball and finished her career with a .490 batting average and a slugging percentage of .994.

The rest of the class includes: infielders Camyl Armendariz, Sydney Gray, Milee “MJ” Green and Abbey Newlun; pitchers Kaylin Kinney and Caitlynn Neal.

Soccer: NU signed nine players Wednesday. The commits include Nebraskans Reagan Raabe and Katie Stoneburner of Millard West, Gwen Lane and Lily Sturek of Lincoln Southwest, Lexi Thomsen of Elkhorn and Lincoln Pius X’s Elana Webber.

Also signing: Forward Audra Clark, keeper Sydney Marchant, defender Molly Quarry.

Golf: Three golfers signed with Nebraska Wednesday, including Wahoo’s Lindsey Thiele. The other signees are Andrea Velez of Pereira, Colombia, and Michaela Vavrova of Bojnice, Slovakia.

Wrestling: Coach Mark Manning added six wrestlers to his program. The class is rated No. 6 in the nation by FloWrestling.

At 132 pounds, Dominick Serrano from Windsor, Colorado, is a three-time state champion. He is entering his senior year 139-0 and ranked No. 2 by InterMat. Nathan Haas (182), Silas Allred (195), Jeremiah Reno (125), Brock Hardy (145) and Brandyn Van Tassell (184) also signed letters of intent Wednesday.
