Mark Turgeon, Maryland head coach
Current Salary: $2.85 million
On its surface, this makes no sense. Turgeon is in a recruiting hotbed in the D.C. area at a historically sound program. But things between Turgeon and the athletic department aren’t great. Turgeon has been around long enough to know when it might be time for a new gig. If the payment is right, maybe he comes to Lincoln. Turgeon was born in Topeka, played at Kansas, coached at Wichita State and worked his way up to the Texas A&M job in 2007. He won 24 or more games in all four seasons at A&M and went to the tournament each year. At Maryland, he’s finished as high as second in the Big Ten and been to the dance three times. He’s used to recruiting in the Midwest and knows how to win in the Big Ten. But is he willing to take a harder job?
