Nebraska had the wind for the second quarter Friday, but two huge mistakes kept the Huskers from taking back the lead against Iowa.

NU was in position to get the football at the Iowa 41, but Ameer Abdullah muffed a punt after calling for a fair catch. Micah Hyde recovered for the Hawkeyes with 11:28 left in the first half.

After the Husker defense got a fourth-down stop in NU territory, Iowa again got the ball back with help. Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez lost the football when he was grazed by Andy Janovich as the fullback went by, and the Hawkeyes recovered the fumble at their own 48.

Iowa had three possessions end in Husker territory in the quarter. The last concluded with Mike Meyer missing a 42-yard field goal with four seconds left.

Also before halftime:

>> Brett Maher had a 61-yard punt that went out at the Iowa 4 with 13:04 left in the second quarter.

>> The Huskers lost center Justin Jackson, cornerback Ciante Evans, defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler and defensive end Eric Martin to injuries at different times in the first half. Evans and Martin both returned.

>> After Nebraska gained 72 rushing yards on its first possession of the game, it had minus 4 the rest of the way.

>> Micah Hyde had a 29-yard punt return to give Iowa its last chance at points. The Hawkeyes had first-and-10 at the NU 19 before stalling.
