Nebraska's football coach Mike Riley, right, sits with Huskers signee Pernell Jefferson, left, at a Husker basketball game. Jefferson committed later that night.

Last but not least, Pernell Jefferson's signing with Nebraska was officially announced at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday.

The delay had Huskers fans nervous. As the hours passed and one name — Jefferson's — remained unchecked on the list of signees, many wondered when his National Letter of Intent would come.

Some feared the worst — that a surprise flip to another team would happen. Jefferson did take an official visit to Indiana the weekend after he committed to the Huskers.

But all those concerns were put to rest when Jefferson's letter arrived, and he became signee No. 21 in the Huskers' 2016 class.

Jefferson was a late addition to the class. He'd been committed to Oklahoma since August before the Huskers ramped up their efforts in mid-January. That push secured an official visit for the weekend of Jan. 22, and he committed after attending an NU basketball game with Mike Riley.

He's one of three linebackers in the class, joining Greg Simmons and Quayshon Alexander

Jefferson's signature completes a 21-man signing class that all four services have in the Top 25 as of Wednesday afternoon.
