Darin Erstad stepped down as Nebraska baseball's head coach Monday.
After eight years at the helm — on top of a college playing career — in Nebraska, Husker fans, players and media know the man well. Here's what they had to say in the immediate aftermath of the announcement.
Coach Erstad genuinely cares about all of his players and helped me not only become a better baseball player but a better man. I will forever cherish the 3 years I got to play for him here at Nebraska! THANK YOU COACH FOR EVERYTHING 🙌— Skum (@LukeRoskam) June 3, 2019
Darin Erstad resigns as the Husker baseball coach...very tough void to fill for the #Huskers, but with the roll Bill Moos has been on in his hires, I'm excited to see who he comes up with.— Dean (@DeanRadio95) June 3, 2019
Thanks Coach Erstad and best of luck in the future! #GBR
Coach Erstad is a class act. Both as an athlete and a Coach for the Huskers. Wishing him and his family all the best!— Rory Berigan (@RoryBerigan) June 3, 2019
Speechless is an understatement. Coach Erstad poured his heart and soul into Husker Baseball. He has done more for me than I could ever pay back. I am so grateful for the time I got to spend under his wing. So much love for him and the Erstad family for all they’ve done. #gbr— Kyle Perry (@_kp23_) June 3, 2019
Cant blame Darin Erstad for one second for making the move he made today. Family comes first. Did good things for the program. Thanks for everything Coach and best wishes going forward. :-)— Ryan Kronberg (@RyanKronberg) June 3, 2019
I’ll just say it was incredible to be around Darin Erstad the last few years. That competitive fire just rubbed off on the people around him. It was obvious. Made you want to just attack everything.— Connor Happer (@ConnorHapper) June 3, 2019
Sad day for Husker Nation! I loved having Coach Frost, Coach Erstad, and Coach Hoiberg. Thanks for all the memories Coach Erstad and for getting this program back on track! We are a better program because of your leadership.— Bryan Reichmuth (@4NURed) June 3, 2019
Darin Erstad resigned as #Nebraska's baseball coach today. Every time I hear about him, I don't think of the Angels.— Jeff Sharon (@Jeff_Sharon) June 3, 2019
I think "DOUBLE EXTRA POINT!" when he was Nebraska's K in '94.
The guy who threw that desperate pass? That's Jon Vedral. Noah's uncle.https://t.co/2Rf53EUMme

Say what you want about outcomes, Erstad developed these kids into solid young men. To me, that’s an extremely valuable asset for any coach at Nebraska. 🌽⚾️‼️ https://t.co/BYfcB7JXYz— Brent Quinn (@BrentHusker) June 3, 2019
Exactly, who are you going to get that is better than Erstad?— Ron Rezac (@NebPharmer) June 3, 2019
In all my years as a student athlete here at the university and all the years that followed, I’ve never come across a guy that’s got more love for the program(the entire athletics dept) then my buddy Darin Erstad!Thank u for ALL that you’ve done for the N! #GBR #Legend #Huskers— Jason Peter (@jasonpeter) June 4, 2019
