Millard South catcher Drew Wessel committed to Nebraska on Monday night. The 6-foot, 180 pound catcher joined his classmate and high school teammate Noah Greise as Division I baseball commits. Greise has committed to Wichita State on Oct. 11.

"It has been a dream since I was a kid," Wessel said of playing at Nebraska. "It is close enough for my family to attend games and there is no place like Nebraska."

Wessel said Nebraska recruited him as a catcher, though he does play quite a bit of infield for his high school team.

His stats — which include a .406 batting average, .449 slugging percentage and .998 fielding percentage — are impressive, but Wessel also takes pride in being a team player.

"I am a team player and always look to put the team first," he said. "I compete and try to win for my team every time I touch the diamond."

The Husker pipeline of Patriots seems firmly in place. When Wessel gets to campus in 2020 two 2018 All-Nebraska players Drew Gilin and Kyle Perry will be entering their junior seasons for the Huskers.
