CINCINNATI — Creighton started February with three single-digit losses, but the Bluejays found a way to pull out a win in the final minute Sunday.

Olivia Elger hit a 15-foot jumper with 30 seconds left to put Creighton ahead and the Jays made a stop on the other end for a 53-52 win over Xavier.

Creighton (12-14, 6-9 Big East) trailed 38-24 midway through the third quarter, and was down 43-31 with less than nine minutes to play. But the Bluejays then went on a 15-2 run in the next five minutes, capped when Temi Carda and Jade Owens hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Carda converted a three-point play.

Xavier regained a 52-48 lead with 1:37 left, but Elger’s three-point play cut the deficit to 52-51 with 1:17 remaining.

After a stop on defense, Elger hit the winning jumper on CU’s next possession. Rachel Saunders then blocked Xavier’s 3-point attempt to secure the win.

Creighton, led by Carda’s 18 points and six rebounds, was 9 of 12 from the field in the final 8:05. Before that, the Jays were 13 of 41 (31.7 percent). CU won even though its leading scorers, Audrey Faber and Jaylyn Agnew, combined for two points.

Next up, Creighton plays at Providence on Saturday.
