INDIANAPOLIS — Creighton was done in by two lengthy scoring droughts as Butler picked up a 66-46 win Friday night in Big East women’s basketball.
The Bulldogs (19-5) used a 19-3 run in the first half to build a double-digit lead. After Creighton clawed back in the game early in the second half, Butler scored 25 unanswered points, dropping the Bluejays to 11-14 on the season.
The Bluejays led 12-8 with three minutes left in the first quarter when Jaylyn Agnew hit her second 3-pointer. But CU scored three points over the next nine minutes as Butler took a 32-22 lead to halftime.
Creighton scored the first six points of the second half and was within 36-32 midway through the third quarter when Temi Carda hit a 3.
But the Jays then went scoreless for nearly the next 10 minutes as Butler ran away to a 61-32 lead.
Kristen Spolyar, who scored seven points during the 25-0 run, led four Bulldogs in double figures with 13 points.
Carda and Agnew scored 12 points each for Creighton, which shot 28.3 percent from the field and committed 20 turnovers.
Creighton is 1-6 in its last seven games and has scored 53 or fewer points in four of those losses.
Creighton stays on the road and will play Xavier at 1 p.m. Sunday.
