CHICAGO — Butler handed Creighton a pair of lopsided losses by during the regular season.

But Sunday night in the Big East tournament quarterfinals, the sixth-seeded Bluejays controlled the fourth quarter and pulled away for a 60-51 victory over the third-seeded Bulldogs.

CU plays second-seeded DePaul in Monday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal.

Butler beat the Jays 75-43 and 66-46 this year, but CU played with the lead most of the way Sunday.

The Jays led nearly the entire first half, hitting nine of their first 16 shots for a 21-13 lead late in the first quarter. The lead grew to 26-17 on Jaylyn Agnew’s 3-pointer with 8:02 left in the half.

But Creighton would score three points over the next 12 minutes as Butler moved in front 31-29. CU then regained its offensive footing. There were four ties and five lead changes the rest of the third quarter, and CU took a 43-42 lead to the fourth after Audrey Faber hit two free throws.

Creighton then hit its first three shots of the fourth to stretch the lead to 49-42, forcing Butler to play catch-up. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 51-47, but a Faber basket at the 2:18 mark and an Olivia Elger pull-up jumper on the next possession put the Jays up 57-49 with 1:26 left. They sealed the win with free throws.

Agnew led CU with 13 points and eight rebounds. Elger added 11 points and Faber had 10 points and four assists. Elger was part of a productive night from CU’s bench, which outscored Butler’s 25-3.

Creighton also held the Bulldogs to 32.8 percent shooting from the field, including 3 of 17 in the fourth quarter.

Creighton (15-15) now faces DePaul, the host school. CU beat the Blue Demons 85-82 in Chicago on Dec. 29 while DePaul won in Omaha 74-67 last Sunday. In that game, CU led by 13 in the third quarter before DePaul rallied.
