Bubba Starling

Bubba Starling has been one of the Storm Chasers' top hitters this season with a .314 batting average.

The Pacific Coast League All-Star team will feature a pair of players with local ties.

Outfielder Bubba Starling of the Storm Chasers and Omaha native Pat Venditte will be teammates when they face the International League’s top players in the upcoming Triple-A All-Star Game.

The annual midseason event will take place July 10 at Southwest University Park in El Paso, Texas.

Venditte, who plays for San Francisco’s Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, was named to the PCL team last season while playing for Oklahoma City. He didn’t attend the game because he was promoted by the Dodgers.

Starling, in the midst of a career-best season, is a first-time selection. Kansas City’s 2011 first-round draft pick has been among the PCL’s top hitters this summer and is batting .314. The former Nebraska football recruit from Gardner, Kansas, is a stellar defensive outfielder and has progressed at the plate since early 2017.

The fourth-year Chaser is just a .243 lifetime hitter in the minor leagues but has batted better than .300 since May 2017. Starling missed nearly all of the 2018 season due to oblique and finger injuries.

Venditte has been consistently effective in the PCL again this season. He’s 4-1 in his first season with the River Cats and has a 2.56 ERA. He’s been below 2.00 for most of the year. The switch-pitching Creighton product signed with the Giants in December.
