Alex Gordon is batting .274 in 2019 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Plenty of Alex Gordon fans can be expected at tonight's Kansas City-Detroit game at TD Ameritrade Park.

But don't expect to see Gordon himself at Omaha's first regular-season MLB game.

The Royals released the starting lineup Thursday afternoon, and Gordon wasn't included. He was hit by a pitch during Wednesday night's game in Kansas City, a 3-2 win for the Tigers.

Gordon, a former Lincoln Southeast and Husker standout, is batting .274 so far this season with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Former Creighton star Nicky Lopez is in the lineup, batting sixth and playing second base. Lopez has played 24 games and is batting .204 so far in his rookie year.

Another player with heavy ties to the city will also lead off for the Royals: Whit Merrifield, who called Omaha "a great place to play baseball." Merrifield is a former South Carolina star — he delivered the game-winning hit in the Gamecocks' 2010 title run during the final CWS at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Royals right fielder also played extensively for the Omaha Storm Chasers from 2014-17.

Wymore, Nebraska, native Jake Diekman, a relief pitcher who signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Royals earlier this year, could also make an appearance. He threw one inning during Wednesday's game.
