The College of St. Mary’s Karyn Bixler has been named the NAIA Division II women’s basketball player of the week.
Bixler helped the Flames to a 3-0 week with wins over Haskell (Kan.), then-No. 3 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) and Central Christian (Kan.).
Against Haskell on Jan. 15, Bixler scored 14 points, collected six rebounds and dished out four assists.
In the 70-65 upset victory of Ozarks, which snapped the Bobcats’ 24-game conference winning streak, Bixler had 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block.
On Jan. 19, against Central Christian, Bixler scored 14 points, which broke CSM’s career scoring mark. She also collected nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the contest. She currently has 1,345 points for her career.
The 5-foot-10 guard from Omaha Roncalli averaged 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. She shot 60 percent (15 of 25) from the field.
Nationally, Bixler ranks 21st in total steals (59), 24th in steals per game (2.8) and 24th in total blocks (29).
