Heider College of Business student Vy Do graduated with a finance degree one year ahead of schedule. But her time in Omaha isn’t over yet. The international student from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, will begin classes in Creighton’s School of Pharmacy and Health Professions in the fall.
“I’m excited for the next four years,” Do, who will study to be a pharmacist, says, “because Creighton never disappoints me!”
Inspired by her aunt, a physician who runs her own clinic and works in a hospital setting as well, Do decided to enter the health care field. She says she chose business for its practicality, finance for its quantitative nature, and Creighton for its business/pre-health hybrid program that affords her the opportunity to blend these two distinctive academic pursuits.
“Business classes teach me to look at things at a more macro level, and as I realize there is room for improvement in the pharmaceuticals industry, I am inspired to be that change,” says Do.
She loves the personal attention her professors have given her and finds her diverse coursework engaging. Still, Do admits that balancing business with the sciences was initially a challenge.
“However, I am happy that I stayed in the pre-health program to become a white-coat investor, because I think it is a great way to serve others — bridging healthcare and business,” Do says.
Serving others is central to who Do is, and her involvement at Creighton reflects its importance. She carefully curated her extracurricular activities to facilitate her personal growth and to take advantage of all the opportunities Creighton provides.
As part of her finance major, Do took a seminar class composed of an eclectic sampling of students pursuing various business majors, as well as technology and Spanish majors.
Do is grateful she has had the opportunity to attend Creighton. And she says she is called to continue to serve in a different way — “to spread the light and fire of Creighton outside of Omaha, reaching other parts of the globe.”
