Jonathan Berger (Gaston) and Aubri Devashrayee (Belle) rehearse a scene from the Ralston Community Theatre’s upcoming performance of “Beauty and the Beast.” There will be nine performances of the show in July.

Todd Uhrmacher wanted just the right performance as the Ralston Community Theatre celebrates its 40th anniversary this summer.

He believes he found that performance in “Beauty and the Beast.”

The RCT will have nine showings of the Disney classic this month. Performances will take place at the Ralston Performing Arts Centre at Ralston High School, 8969 Park Drive at 7:30 p.m. on July 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27 as well as 2 p.m. matinee performances on July 14, 21 and 28.

While it is a milestone performance for the RCT, it is also a milestone show for Uhrmacher as he will be directing his 200th performance as both a high school and community theater director.

“We wanted a big name title and this is a big, glitzy show,” Uhrmacher said. “We wanted to make sure it was a play that encompasses all ages. It’s a show for kids, but not with kids.”

The play focuses on a prince who is cursed to live life as a terrifying beast until he finds true love. The beautiful Belle arrives on the scene and begins to see the beast as more than a monster. The Beast’s home also features a collection of talking servants, including a clock, teapot and candelabra.

Uhrmacher believes the performance produces the right amount of glitz and glamour to keep an audience captivated.

“It’s always fun when you have that stage magic and this show has got the extra elements to give it stage magic,” he said. “It’s a spectacle.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. Tickets are available online at ralstoncommunitytheatre.org or by calling the box office at 402-898-3545. Box office hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
