The Papillion Book Festival will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sump Memorial Library, 222 N. Jefferson St. More than 30 local authors will be on hand for a meet and greet and books will be available for purchase.

The City of La Vista Public Works Expo is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Works facility, 9900 Portal Road. Visitors can meet staff, explore equipment and see live demonstrations. June 11

Think, Make, Create will meet at Cold Stone Creamery, 12746 Westport Parkway Suite 2A, from 2 to 3 p.m. There will be ice cream treats along with STEM activities.

Simple Senior Solutions will give a presentation on educating seniors on transitioning to a retirement living community at noon at the Papillion Senior Center, 1001 Limerick Road.

June 12

The Papillion Area Lions Club will host Hops for Harmony, a beer tasting and food event, at Werner Park, 12356 Ballpark Way, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hops for Harmony is a fundraising event for Project Harmony, an agency committed to ending child abuse and neglect. Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the door. Tickets are available at area Hy-Vee stores (customer service counter) or from any Lions Club Member.

June 14

In conjunction with Papillion Days, the Cruiser’s for the Breath of Life Car Show will host its 10th anniversary show at Grace Baptist Church, 205 E. Halleck St. Registration begins at 5 p.m., followed by the show at 6 p.m. and the awards presentation at 8:30 p.m. Registration fee is $10. There will be 13 classes, including two motorcycle classes, as well as concessions and door prizes. All proceeds benefit the American Lung Association. The Papillion Area Concert Band will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. at SumTur Amphitheater, 11691 S. 108th St.

A senior luncheon will be held at the Steppe Center, 11730 Peel Circle, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to all seniors and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Papillion Senior Center, 1001 Limerick Road, will host Sunglasses and Sundaes. Seniors are encouraged to wear their favorite sunglasses and sundaes will be served at 12:30 p.m. There will also be games and lunch at 11:30. Register by June 20.

The Urban Scramble Adventure Race will take place at 8 a.m., beginning at the La Vista Community Center, 8116 Park View Blvd. Two-person men’s, women’s and co-ed teams will compete in a combination of running, biking and navigating skills. July 11

The City of La Vista will host a hydrant party from 3 to 4 p.m. at City Hall, 8116 Park View Blvd. Children of all ages and parents are welcome.

July 21

The La Vista Splash Bash will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the La Vista Municipal Pool, 9110 Giles Road. There will be free swimming along with a DJ, food and prizes during that time.

July 27

The Taste of La Vista will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Central Park tennis courts, 7702 Edgewood Blvd. There will be food along with an opportunity to give feedback or ask questions about city projects.

Day to Day

Springfield Platteview Community Schools is hosting its annual preschool registration. Platteview Early Education Center and Westmont Early Education Center are accepting requests for preschool registration forms for the 2019–20 school year. Children must be 3 to 4 years old by July 31 and live in the Springfield Platteview Community Schools district to be eligible. For more information, call Becky at 402-592-1300.

American Legion Post 32 will serve dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday through Saturday and serve breakfast the first Sunday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon. All events are open to the public. Monthly meetings are: Legion — First Thursday of the month at 7 p.m., Auxiliary — Second Thursday at 7 p.m., S.A.L — Third Tuesday at 7 p.m., A.L. The Papillion Senior Center, 1001 Limerick Road, hosts a variety of events throughout the week. A Mix and Match Exercise Class meets from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. No reservation is required. Cost is 50 cents per class. Cards, games and conversations take place each Tuesday and Thursday at noon. There will be a Hy-Vee catered lunch at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required. There will be ceramics every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cost is the price of a ceramic piece, plus a $1 fee per session per person to use the ceramic supplies provided at the center.

Papillion, La Vista and Springfield city councils meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. The Papillion council meets at City Hall, 122 E.
