Due to additional school days, summer will have to begin a little later for children across the area.
With the school year extended, local swimming pools and splash pads are adjusting their starting dates.
Update: The La Vista Municipal Swimming Pool, which was scheduled to open on Saturday, will remain closed after city staff identified a mechanical problem.
When the pool opens, hours of operation will be from 1 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Aug. 11. From July 9 to Aug. 1, the pool will be closed from 5:45 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for swim lessons.
Beginning Aug. 12, the pool will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The final day of pool operations will be Labor Day.

Papio Bay Aquatic Center, 815 E. Halleck St., will open Saturday and remain open through Aug. 11. Papio Bay will be closed on May 28-29.
Papio Bay will be open from noon to 8 p.m. each day of the week except for Tuesdays and Thursdays when hours of operation will be noon to 6:30 p.m. It will close at 5 p.m. on July 4, 22, 26 and 31 and at 3 p.m. on July 19.
June 16 will be Fathers Day at the Bay with fathers receiving free admission with one paid admission while July 14 is Mothers Day at the Bay with mothers receiving free admission with one paid admission. The 12th annual Dog Day at the Bay is set for Aug. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. For rates and season passes, visit Papillion.org.
Three splash pads are also available throughout the city and are free of charge. Those splash pads are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Eagle Ridge Splash Pad, 66th Street and Ashwood Avenue, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Schwer Park Splash Pad, 800 W. Centennial Road, is open from noon to 7 p.m. daily.
First Street Plaza Splash Pad, First and Washington streets, is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The splash pad at Buffalo Park, Sixth and Vine streets, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Bicycles, skateboards and roller blades are not allowed on the splash pad. Adult supervision is recommended. The splash pad is free of charge.
