Papillion was recognized as one of the state’s most beautiful cities in a recent online ranking.
Culturetrip.com, a website featuring global culture and lifestyles, ranked Nebraska’s 10 most beautiful cities last week.
Papillion was cited for managing to keep a small-town feel despite being a larger city. The website credited Papillion’s railroad roots and efforts to maintain its original, historic downtown that is now home to many locally-owned businesses.
Also mentioned was the city’s dedication to green space with 12 city parks, two golf courses and multiple trails.
Papillion Mayor David Black said the city’s downtown area has maintained much of its original 1870s core and its small-town character despite city growth.
“We still have some of that original character from a building perspective,” Black said. “We’ve got that small town, unique feel.”
As the city has grown, officials haven’t lost focus on the park system.
“I think we probably have one of the best park systems in the state with the amenities, how they’re maintained and how expansive they are,” Black said.
In the past, Papillion has been ranked by CNN Money Magazine as one of its Best Places to Live in America and by Bloomberg Businessweek as one of the best places to raise children in the state.
“We’ve got the strong foundation of the old, a great park system, a great community and the new growth is fitting that quality,” Black said. “It just ties together and fits.”
