Papillion again a 'best place to live'

Money Magazine says Papillion is a "regular" on its biennial list of the nation's best places to live.

Papillion was named No. 8 in the 2013 rankings. The magazine highlights the "top-notch" Papillion-La Vista School District, the city's safe streets and the easy commute residents have to major employers in the Omaha metropolitan area.

Specific Papilllion companies were referenced, including Black Hills Energy and SAC Federal Credit Union, and Werner Park earned a shout out: "Go, Storm Chasers!"

The rankings do offer a criticism: "Downtown has few stores, and the fine-dining options are practically nil." However, business owners recently came together to form the Historic Downtown Papillion Business Association to focus energy on revitalizing downtown, and the city has invested in additional parking and the new First Street Plaza to help anchor businesses.

Papillion was ranked in the top 10 cities since 2007. The magazine placed the city at No. 5 in 2011, No. 3 in 2009 and No. 6 in 2007. The city was No. 23 in the 2005 rankings.

Besides Money Magazine, Papillion has been named the best place to raise kids in Nebraska by Bloomberg Businessweek, the best small town in America by Livability and the home of one of the country's best festivals by Livability.

Mayor David Black, in a comment on his official Facebook page, said city employees love Papillion. He celebrated the community again receiving high marks.

"This is only because of residents that care, civic organizations that do so many great things, businesses that give back, schools that impact the community," Black said. "Congratulations Papillion!"
