Hot rods, road oddities and classic cars took over Werner Park and made a roundabout trek from Papillion to Iowa for drag and street racing — all to benefit a good cause.

The 2013 Ice Cream Cruise began with a car show and party at Werner Park on Saturday afternoon. Proceeds from the event went to support Ted E. Bear Hollow, a nonprofit which offers support to grieving children and their families.

1320 Video’s Kyle Loftis of Papillion, the event organizer, said more than $8,000 was collected for the charity.

After the car show, many of the participants drove to Mid-American Motorsports, doing a highway loop of the metropolitan area.

Once there, drivers spent four hours late Saturday evening participating in drag and street racing at the race track.
