Papillion-La Vista’s Nolan Vondra was the only area medalist at the Metro Golf Championships May 8 at Benson Park Golf Course.
The Papio senior navigated a cold, rainy day, and a few weather delays, to shoot a 77 to earn the sixth-place medal. Westside’s Grant Jabenis won the tourney with a round of 69.
Vondra’s medal led the Monarchs to a fifth-place finish as a team with 336 strokes. Creighton Prep won the tourney with 304 strokes.
Jack Davis and Christian Holloway each had solid rounds for Papio by shooting an 84 and 85, respectively. Sebastian Holtmeier added a 90.
Papio South came in sixth as a team, one stroke behind the Monarchs, while Bellevue West tied for seventh with 342 strokes. Bellevue East took 12th with Bryan placing in a tie for 13th.
Mason Burger led the Titans with a round of 80, one stroke out of medal contention. Josh and Drew D’Ercole shot an 81 and 82, respectively, for the Titans.
Cade Richard and Ryan Kamentz led the Thunderbirds by carding rounds of 82 and 83, respectively. Preston Ames shot an 88 with Kale Dawson adding an 89.
Jaxson Harding led Bellevue East by shooting a 91 while Conner Kuehn clubbed a round of 95. Tobius Knudsen and Matthew Conway each shot a 129 for the Bears.
• Gretna had four of the top five finishers on its way to winning the Waverly Invite title May 7.
The Dragons shot a team total of 314 to place first, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Wahoo Neumann. Platteview finished in fifth place as a team.
Colin Kitson clubbed a round of 76 to finish in second place, two strokes behind the winner, and lead the Dragons. Colton Stock and Zach Weber carded rounds of 79 to finish in third and fourth, respectively, while Parker Jones added a round of 80 to take fifth.
Jordan Hart led the Trojans by placing seventh with a round of 82. Gretna’s Christopher Atkinson also shot an 82 to place eighth.
• Gretna took first place in Thursday’s triangular at River Wilds Golf Course.
The Dragons’ team score of 183 was better than Wahoo (202) and Blair (206). Nolan Johnson shot a 42 to lead Gretna. Carter Bartram added a 45.
• Gross and Ralston finished in fifth and sixth, respectively, at the River Cities Conference Tournament May 6 at Benson Park Golf Course.
The Cougars recorded 374 team strokes with Ralston totaling 392. Skutt won the team title with 309.
Noah Miller (Gross) and Mike Faulkner (Ralston) each earned a medal on the day. Miller shot an 81 to place eighth while Faulkner’s round of 82 placed him ninth.
• Papio South placed ninth with Papillion-La Vista coming in 11th at Friday’s Norfolk Invite.
The host Panthers won the team title. Burger had the best showing by the area golfers, shooting a 77 to place 14th for the Titans.
Drew and Josh D’Ercole added rounds of 82 and 84, respectively, for Papio South.
Vondra and Davis each carded an 83 to headline the Monarchs. Sebastian Holtmeier shot an 87.
