Papillion-La Vista pulled off an upset in the quarterfinals to advance to the Metro Conference semifinals.
After a first-round shutout of Omaha Northwest, the Monarchs downed Burke 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
The two teams were tied 1-1 at halftime before the Monarchs scored the game-winner in the second half. Jake Lamontagne and Gabe Greiman scored the two Papio goals
The Monarchs’ Metro tourney run came to an end Saturday with a 4-0 loss to Creighton Prep. Papio managed just four shots on goal in the match.
Metro Quarterfinal results:
Creighton Prep 2, Papio South 0 — The Titans held the Junior Jays scoreless in the first half before Prep found the net twice in the second half for the win.
Omaha South 2, Bryan 1 — Bryan scored a goal in the ninth minute to tie the match at 1-all before a Packer goal in the 45th minute proved to be the game-winner.
First round results:
Papio South 2, Bellevue West 1 — Max Lambert scored both goals for the Titans with the second score breaking a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes left in the match.
Chance Hergott and Braedan Paiz each notched an assist for the Titans while the T-birds’ score was an own goal. Zach Selph made seven saves in goal for the Titans.
Bryan 4, Benson 1 — After a scoreless first half, Husseini Lugendo got the Bears on the board with 24 minutes left in the second half.
The Bears added three more goals down the stretch with Rufay Enow scoring two and Ali Hassan adding one.
Noor Hassan, Kiran Kalikote and Diego Gonzalez each picked up an assist.
Papillion-La Vista 2, Omaha Northwest 0 — Papio scored once in each half to advance to the Metro quarterfinals.
Lamontagne and Moritz Gust each netted a goal for the Monarchs with Kendall Anderson adding an assist. Jayden Kreis made five saves for the clean sheet.
Burke 7, Bellevue East 2 — East couldn’t recover from a 4-1 halftime deficit. Kyle Bishop and Luke Tyner scored the two Chieftains goals with Anthony Melendez picking up an assist.
Bellevue East 2, Omaha Northwest 1 — Miracle Ndichafah and Luis Urzua each netted a goal for the Chieftains with Alan Najarro and Daniel Reedy each adding an assist.
Schyler Smeby posted nine saves in goal.
Millard South 3, Bellevue West 2 — The Patriots posted a 4-2 advantage in the shootout to down the T-birds.
Jacob Schmidt and Cruz Juraldo each scored for the T-birds.
Regular season results:
Gretna 1, Mount Michael 0 — The Dragons got a game-winning goal by Nathan Fibich on a Jake Cover assist in the second half against the Class B No. 5 Knights.
Brendan Franke made four saves in the shutout for Gretna.
Gretna 5, Bennington 1 — The Dragons took control with a 2-0 advantage at halftime
Gross 2, Roncalli 1 — Eric Yanovich scored both Cougar goals with the second breaking a 1-1 tie in the second half.
Brandon Villanueva made three saves for Gross.
Skutt 3, Gross 0 — The Class B No. 2 SkyHawks netted two goals in the first half before an insurance goal in the second.
Gross 3, Bennington 1 — The Cougars rushed to a 3-1 lead by halftime before holding on for the win with a scoreless second half.
Eric Yanovich scored a goal to go with two assists to lead the Cougars. Graham Meyer and Justin Kennedy each added a goal.
Creighton Prep 3, Papillion-La Vista 0 — Second-ranked Prep led 2-0 at halftime before closing out the win. Jayden Kreis made nine saves in goal for Papio.
Elkhorn 2, Platteview 1 — The Antlers scored the game-winner in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Connor Cargile scored the lone Trojan goal while goalkeeper Michael Aschtgen posted eight saves.
Holdrege 7, Platteview 1 — The Dusters racked up four second half goals for the run-away victory.
Blair 2, Ralston 1 — The Rams couldn’t hold a 1-0 halftime lead against the Bears, who scored the game-winner with 8 minutes left in the match.
