Gretna's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Omaha South in the semifinals of the Class A state tournament.

The Dragons finish their first season in Class A with a 15-2 record.

Highlights: In the third minute of the game, Brendan Franke made a save on a South shot but a Packer was right there to put the rebound in the net.

Franke made some big saves over the next 30 minutes but the Packers added two goals in a four-minute span late in the first half to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime. The first goal was on strong passing by the Packers in the box that resulted in an easy tap in goal.

The half's final score came on an stellar individual effort by Abdi Adan.

All three of Gretna's shots in the first half were on goal, but saved by South.

The Packers pushed their lead to 4-0 with a goal 15 minutes into the second half.

The Dragons, who finished with five shots on goal, couldn’t find the net.

Top performers: Dragon seniors Cury Arms, Jed Merriman, Nate Fibich, John Cover, Ben Bickel and Zach Voss deserve to be commended after leading the Dragons to 16-2 record despite a season of change.

From the coach: “When you give up a goal in the first 10 minutes on something you’ve seen on film, I think you could kind of see it throughout the team that it deflated us.”
