The Monarchs held off a scrappy Bear team for a 59-51 victory Friday at Papillion-La Vista.

Highlights: Third-ranked Papillion-La Vista got all they could handle Friday against Bryan. The Monarchs needed to erase a fourth-quarter deficit to grab the win.

Bryan's Javen Udofia hit a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter to give the Bears their first lead the game at 47-46. Papio's Chad Lechtenberg responded with a layup the next possession to regain the lead, which the Monarchs would hold the rest of the way. Isaac Hiebert made a breakaway layup to give the Monarchs a four point lead with 1:15 left and ice a Papio win.

Top performers: Ed Chang led Papio with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks, while Lechtenberg and Ayo Akinwole each added a dozen points. Trevion Crawford notched 16 points for Bryan.

From the coaches: "We faced some adversity tonight and persevered through it. We did a lot of good things down the stretch, hit our free throws, played good defense. I'm proud of our guys for picking up our 17th win"

- Monarch coach Dan Moore.

"The future is bright for us but the future can be right now. If we can come into P-LV on senior night and be in it in the fourth quarter, we can play with anyone."

- Bryan coach Terrence O'Donnell.
