More than 200 pairs of sneakers hit the bricks last Saturday as the Red Brick Run returned to downtown Gretna for its fifth year.

The annual event — which serves as a fundraiser for the local chapter of the TeamMates mentoring program — was on track to raise more than $9,500 between runner participation and sponsorships.

Seeing warmer weather than compared to years past, participation nearly tripled this year compared to 2018.

“It was a beautiful day for a race and we had fantastic support from our volunteers, the City of Gretna, Deputy Dale LaSonde and the community,” said Jeff Spilinek, who coordinates the event.
