- All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship on Friday.

The contest will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gretna High School auxiliary gym.

Council 10047 sponsors the local Knights of Columbus contest each year with winners progressiong through local, district and state competitions.

Registration forms will available at all Gretna Public Schools as well as at the time of the competition.

- A job fair for veterans will be held today at Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion.

Hiring our Heroes, sponsored locally by the American Legion, will be in the former Borders book store, 7775 Olson Drive, Suite 121, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Job seekers can find a variety of employers from various industries.

Register online at HOH.Greatjob.net. Walk-ins are welcome, but space isn’t guaranteed.

“The Department of Labor is excited to be involved in another Hiring Our Heroes fair,” Commissioner of Labor and Director of Economic Development Catherine D. Lang, said in a press release. “Each of the events so far has been a great benefit to both jobseekers and employers.”

Since its launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has helped more than 14,000 veterans and military spouses find employment.
